Three stops. Three golds each. The 2026 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup wrapped up in Astana, Kazakhstan (October 15–17), and our athletes saved some of their best for last.
Kasia Wasick won the 50 free for the third straight stop to claim the Triple Crown. Shaine Casas won the 200 IM for the second week running. Here's how they finished the series.
Kasia Wasick: Triple Crown in the 50 free
50 Free — Gold, 23.30. Kasia has done it again. With wins in Baku, Tashkent and now Astana, she takes the 50 free Triple Crown, a gold at every stop of the series.
This one didn't come easy. Marrit Steenbergen, one of the stars of the series, entered the 50 free for the first time on this World Cup with Kasia's crown in her sights. Kasia didn't blink. She threw down 23.30, her fastest swim of the series, to beat Steenbergen (23.41) by eleven-hundredths, with Hong Kong's Siobhan Haughey third (23.76).
And she did it after swimming the 1500 free earlier in the meet. Again.
| Stop | Result | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Baku | Gold | 23.40 |
| Tashkent | Gold | 23.63 |
| Astana | Gold | 23.30 |
Three stops, three golds, and her fastest when the pressure was highest. That's what a veteran sprinter looks like.
Shaine Casas: back-to-back 200 IM gold
200 IM — Gold, 1:51.98. It was the deepest race of the opening night, and it came down to the last stroke.
Canada's Finlay Knox led after the butterfly. Luke Barr took over on backstroke. Barr, Shaine and Knox were all within half a second at the 125, and Shaine turned for the freestyle just 0.12 behind Barr.
Then Italy's Alberto Razzetti came out of nowhere, splitting 27.07 on the free to pull himself into contention from almost a full second back. Three swimmers went stroke for stroke to the wall, and it was Shaine's long reach that got there first in 1:51.98. Razzetti took silver (1:52.16) and Barr bronze (1:52.37).
It's Shaine's second straight 200 IM win, after his come-from-behind gold in Tashkent, and his third gold of the series, following the 200 free in Baku.
The rest of the weekend
Shaine didn't stop at one medal. He added three more podiums in Astana:
| Event | Result | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 200 IM | Gold | 1:51.98 |
| 200 Back | Silver | 1:49.48 |
| 200 Free | Silver | 1:43.14 |
| 100 IM | Bronze | 52.32 |
In the 200 back, his first swim of the event this series, he took silver behind South Africa's Pieter Coetze (1:48.08). Just minutes later, he was back in the water for the 100 IM and still made the podium in 52.32. In the 200 free, he closed with a 12.62 final length to move up into silver.
Kasia kept surprising people. She swam the 1500 free again, this time in 18:38.61 for 6th, nearly 25 seconds faster than her 1500 in Tashkent. She also placed 4th in the 100 free (52.33) and raced the 50 fly, finishing 11th in the heats in 26.19.
Away from the pool, Shaine also joined a group of World Cup swimmers on the ice for a hockey session with local pro team Barys Astana.
The final count
Across three stops and three weeks, here's what our two athletes brought home:
| Athlete | Gold | Silver | Bronze | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shaine Casas | 3 | 4 | 3 | 10 |
| Kasia Wasick | 3 | 1 | 1 | 5 |
15 medals, six of them gold, plus a Triple Crown.
What competitive swimmers can take from the series
Consistency wins series. Kasia didn't need a perfect meet. She needed to win one race, three times, in three cities. Owning your best event week after week is how crowns are won.
Save your best for when it counts. Kasia's fastest 50 of the series came in the race where her crown was most under threat.
Every stroke to the wall. Shaine won the 200 IM by a reach. Races at this level are decided in the last meter, so finish every rep in training like there's a medal on it.
Range keeps you in the game. Shaine medaled in free, back and IM across the series. Kasia swam everything from a 50 fly to a 1500 free. Racing outside your comfort zone builds the swimmer who wins inside it.
What's next
The World Cup was the final competitive lead-in to the World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m). Shaine and Kasia head there with momentum and medals. Follow along on our channels to see how they race it.
