Overview

Among the world's fastest sprint freestylers lies 4-time olympian and TheMagic5 Athlete Kasia Wasick of Poland. With her olympic debut at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Kasia has been competing at a world class level for well over a decade. At the 2022 Fina World Swimming Championships, Kasia picked up a silver medal in the women's 50 meter freestyle, clocking a time of 24.18 seconds.

Early Career

The sprint specialist originally hails from Krakow, Poland. However, she swam competitively in the NCAA, representing the USC Trojans from 2012-2016. She was crowned NCAA Division I Champion in 2016, emerging victorious in the 400 yard freestyle relay in her final race as a collegiate swimmer. She then went on to represent Poland in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games where she placed 29th in the women's 100 meter freestyle, along with a 15th place finish on Poland’s 4x100 meter freestyle relay.

Retirement + Return

After the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Kasia retired from the sport of swimming. It wasn’t until 2018 that she made her return to the sport she loved. Training with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas swim team, Kasia began competing and found herself racing at a world class level once again, this time for the Cali Condors in the first ever season of the International Swim League (ISL).

In 2021 at the Tokyo Olympic Games, at the age of 29, Kasia made her first ever Olympic final. Kasia went into the final as the 5th seed and maintained this position to tie with China’s Wu Qingfeng for 5th place at 24.32.

Recent Success

Just a year later, Wasick represented Poland at the 2022 Fina World Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary. After qualifying for the final as the 2nd fastest seed, she was able to maintain that position in the final. This marked Wasick’s first ever World Championships medal, a shiny silver.

Kasia seems to get faster and more dominant as time goes on. Wasick nearly broke the world record in the women's 50 short course meter freestyle at the Fina World Swimming Cup stop in Indianapolis, Indiana. Kasia clocked a time of 23.10 seconds, just .17 off of the world record set in 2017 by Ranomi Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands.

With the 2022 World Short Course Swimming Championships on the horizon (Dec. 13-18), Kasia heads into the meet as one of the undeniable favorites to take home the gold in the 50 meter freestyle.

TheMagic5 is incredibly proud to be partnered with Kasia Wasick. Her relentless pursuit of perfection is inspiring to every athlete within swimming. From taking a hiatus from the sport for over 2 years, to being at the top of the sprint freestyle tower, Kasia is a phenomenal example of persistence, self-belief, and determination.
